Is it wrong for me to be so excited at the news that WordPress 2.1 Release Candidate 1 is available to download and test out? I’ve never considered myself to be a geek when it comes to software but I had a big beaming smile when I read that WP 2.1 was here.
I really must get out more
You can read the full features list over at the WordPress site but the ones which particularly caught my eye were the WYSIWYG spellchecker, upload manager and the ability to make any page your default home page. Now I already use an excellent WordPress plugin to do this job on a number of my other sites but I can see this as a move by the WordPress guys to turn the product into a CMS platform. I guess we’ll wait and see.
I’m going to download it over the weekend and have a play around on my development server and let you know what I think next week.
More information on the release including an important note about backing up your database can be found on Ryan Borens site. Thanks to the guys over at Quick Online Tips for the original heads up.

Crap. My current server doesn’t have MySQL 4.0+ so I’m going to have to wait until I move to my new hosts. Pants. Oh well, I guess I’ll let everyone else thoroughly bug test it first
