I’ve received a handful of emails over the last two days which are variations on the same theme. Thanks guys for sending them and I hope you don’t mind me replying using the site however I can see that a couple of the questions you ask may well be asked again so I might as well post the definitive answer now.
Are you really an actor? Yes I am. I’m a fully paid up member of Equity and when asked my profession I always respond ‘actor’
Will you have been in anything I’ve seen? Quite possibly. I’ve been involved with a few TV projects over the years as well as working on films. I had a small role in a feature earlier this year which could be big in 2007. I’m mainly employed doing voiceovers, though, as I have the perfect face for radio.
Have you met anyone famous? Well I guess that depends on your definition of famous but I’ve been lucky enough to work with some very talented actors who you will have seen on the big and small screen over the last few years.
Are you really trying to make a million dollars? Absolutely.
Do you think it will happen? You know what? I have no idea. If you’d asked Alex Tew the same question when he launched Million Dollar Homepage, what do you think he would have said? If you’d asked Kyle MacDonald when he started trading his red paperclip whether he’d end up with a home in Kipling, what do you think he would have said? If you’d spoken to Uncle Bill when he started Microsoft, what do you think he would have said? I don’t know. The internet is a weird place where you just have to roll with it and see where you end up.
How much money have you made on the internet? Enough to keep me in cigarettes and Kronenbourg! I started developing sites back in the mid 90’s and was lucky enough to secure a job at a large corporate heading up a web development team. Twenty Steps and my new ventures, though, are completely alien ground to me so I’m as much of a newbie as the next guy.
Is this some kind of publicity stunt? Can you see my full name mentioned here? Can you see me linking to my IMDb profile? What do you think?
What is Twenty Steps about? Well I kinda hoped I’d explained that in the section marked About but, for the hard of thinking, the site has two purposes. The first is to promote the Twenty Steps Challenge and my quest to double a dollar twenty consecutive times to make a million. The second is informing people about what I’ve learned about creating websites that earn money. I’m no expert by any stretch. I understand SEO (I had a phone call from a customer today thanking me for my SEO work on their site. They now get 90% of their business from their web site whereas it was previously less than a third) and I understand the basic principles of marketing. I’m hoping that some of what I already know and what I’m learning every day will be of benefit.
Why not write an eBook? Are you kidding me? I’m not going to charge people for information that they can freely find anywhere on the internet. Besides, this is as much of an experiment as anything else. Maybe in a years time if The Challenge has worked then I’ll write one but at the moment I’m fighting every day to make enough money to keep on top of the ever changing internet landscape.
Can you add me to your Blogroll? No. Sites that appear in the Blogroll are there because they’ve earned the right to be there not because they asked to be there. If you send me a link and I love your site and I feel it adds benefit then you’ll appear. If you don’t appear, don’t take it personally. As I said in my post yesterday about search engine submissions – links are good, forced links are bad. I keep a list of sites which I check every day and it may well be that your site ends up on the Blogroll at a later date because of an outstanding post or because I genuinely love it.
