It must be time for another one of my lazy useful links posts. In this installment we’ve got a blog directory that promises to generate traffic to your site, a website that gathers all of your personal information into one place, a fascinating look into the future of the Web with one of the worlds greatest marketers, some free stuff including software, icons and online storage, a step-by-step guide to moving your WordPress blog and an A-Z of blogging. Marvellous.
I recently signed up to Bloghub and have noticed some traffic coming in from the link. They bill themselves as “an online directory and community where members from around the world gather and exchange ideas”. Early thoughts are that it’s got potential in terms of traffic generation. It would be better, though, if they gave direct links rather than redirects.
We’ve all done it. Googled our name to see what comes back. Well now there’s a new way of finding out facts about yourself (and other people, for that matter). Pipl is a website which returns data collated from a number of different sources and it appears at first glance to be much more accurate than Google. Give it a whirl next time you’re checking out your date or prospective employee.
This is an old article but it’s one I keep going back and reading. Seth Godin looks into his crystal ball and predicts the future of the internet. Web4 - could it really happen? Some of what he covers is pretty scary stuff but, if you think about it, all of the data is readily accessible so maybe it’s not quite as far fetched as you might think.
Looking for 25GB of online storage for free? Then look no further. MediaMax gives you exactly that. It provides you with a private, secure place to deposit all of your files without costing you a penny. I’ve always steered clear of this kind of service because I was worried that they might disappear without a trace and take all of my content with me but these guys have been around for a while now so well worth taking a look at. Thanks to Rob @ A Welsh View for the original heads up.
A picture paints a thousand words, right? I’ve mentioned in the past about free online photo resources so I figured I might as well mention some of the icon sites I’ve used too. In no particular order, Design Meltdown - Microangelo - Vistaicons - Tango Icon Gallery.
Do you want free software? If so then it might well be worth bookmarking Giveaway of the Day because that’s exactly what you’re going to get; licensed software that you’d have to buy otherwise. I must admit that I haven’t used it yet but it all looks pretty good. Have you used them yourself? If so drop us a line in the comments section.
If you’re thinking of moving your WordPress site to a new domain, it can be quite a daunting experience which is why I’d suggest you read this excellent article at Webgazette - Moving Your WordPress Blog to a New Domain. It does exactly what it says on the tin and is dead easy to follow.
Finally, if your new to blogging or are unsure of some of the buzz words that you’ve come across on your trips around the blogosphere, fear not, help is at hand with this handy A-Z of Blogging from ProBlogger. It features blogging tools, services and buzzwords to help you get the most out of blogging.
