More Google Hypocrisy

October 8th, 2007 · 3 Comments

I had a little chuckle reading Loren Baker’s post about the latest Google PageRank update and the whole hysteria surrounding paid links. I’ve spoken about paid links before and how hypocritical I think Google is so I’m not going to go over old ground. Instead I’ll simply post this screen grab from Search Engine Journal. I think it says it all.

Yeah, how much of a pain in the a$$ is all this stuff huh? *sigh* If it’s not one thing it’s another. Hopefully my site is small enough to escape their watchful gaze.

That’s the thing, isn’t it, Bush? Nobody really knows just how far reaching the penalties will be. Sites like David Airey, Andy Beard, John Chow and the like are all high profile so this indicates a hand job by Google rather than an across-the-board algo change. As we know, there’s an option for webmasters to report other sites to Google so, I guess, the bigger you are, the more likely you are to get whacked. However it also leaves it open for people to whack you if they don’t like you, if you’ve pissed them off or if you’re a rival site…

I don’t for one second expect Big G to come out and explain their approach to the masses. It’s not their style. They’d rather everyone ditched TLA, PPP and all of the other revenue generating schemes out there and use AdSense exclusively.
