Link Love

January 8th, 2007 · 2 Comments

Links, as we all know, are a key part of blogging. Giving out link love is important on two counts. Firstly it helps with ranking in the search engines. Secondly it helps to generate traffic. Linking to another site is, in effect, an endorsement.

The question that I’d like to throw out there is what is more valuable? A link in a sidebar or a link in a post? I’m not talking about value from a search engines perspective, I’m talking about the perceived value to you the reader.

I regularly follow links that are within the body of a post, for example, but rarely click on someones blogroll so is it better to get rid of the blogroll altogether and just link within your posts?

What’s more valuable? Links in a post! I hate the fact that the Blogrolls out there show up in Technorati results…when someone updates their page, the blogrolls show up in Technorati. This false linking–in other words, not from a post–ends up masking the people who REALLY link to you in their posts.

    Hi Miguel,

Interesting angle on the Technorati results. Hadn’t really considered that when I asked the question so a very good point.
