Google speaks out about link baiting

December 16th, 2006 · No Comments

If you’re involved in web marketing or running a website, it’s well worth having a look at the article on the Google Webmaster Central Blog entitled Building link-based popularity.

The nuts and bolts of the story are that you should avoid buying links, engaging in link baiting or focusing on getting your site on the front page of Digg.

What do they know, eh? I mean they can’t be a serious blog. Everyone knows that if you want to be taken seriously as a blogger that you have to buy your own domain name rather than use a free service like Blogger

UPDATE 19 Dec: Danny over at Search Engine Land seems to think I’ve got the wrong end of the stick on this one. I’m certainly going to listen to an expert like Danny but I’m still unsure about where all of this is going to lead. The Big G have got a bee in their bonnet about something otherwise they wouldn’t come out with the article in the first place. Where’s it all going to lead? Organic links are obviously the way to go as they always have been but, I guess, Google is looking at how those ‘organic’ links are really generated.
