Search engines, advertising, sitemaps and Google Analytics – a mighty impressive selection of free things for budding web entrepreneurs to play with.
Google Analytics is an excellent stats package which allows you to see everything about the visitors to your website. I mean everything. Forget the regular stats you might get with your web host, sign up to this bad boy and you can really channel your marketing.
Google Analytics (GA) is free so there’s no excuse not to implement it. Click on the graphic to the right and see a larger version of the control panel you get. GA gives you information on your visitors to such a level that you know pretty much everything you need to know about your visitors outside of the colour of their socks.
Location. Browser. Connection speed. Entrance page. Exit page. Length of visit. Referring page. Keyword performance. Page performance. You can set goals for your site and monitor them from within GA. If you’re running an AdWords campaign, you can see how you’re performing and tweak it where necessary.
All you need to do is insert a couple of lines of code into your pages and away you go. There is a wait to get onto the programme but once you’re on board you are ready to seriously target your marketing efforts. How can you market effectively without knowing who your visitors are and how they got there?
