Blogging to level off in 2007
According to a report by business analysts Gartner, blogging is set to peak during the middle of 2007 at 100 million. The firm also says that 200 million people have already given up writing their blogs.
The report suggests that the levelling off will be due to the fact that most people who would ever start a blog will have already done so by the middle part of next year. This follows on from the Sifry Report which suggested that 100,000 new blogs were being created each day but only 55% of all blogs are active.
I’m no business analyst but I’d be surprised if blogging does level off. My belief is that whilst the number of bloggers may level off, the number of blogs will continue to rise as more people multi-blog in an attempt to go ‘pro’. Internet marketers have already seen how a well targeted niche blog can increase affiliate revenue and I don’t see that stopping overnight.
